There are two distinct methods for cutting and shaping materials: CNC machining and lathe work.
A lathe is a type of machine tool that rotates a workpiece and removes material from it with a cutting tool. The cutting tool spins with the workpiece, but it stays still.
In contrast, CNC machining automates the cutting process through the use of computer numerical control (CNC). A CNC machine removes material from a workpiece in accordance with pre-programmed specifications using computer-controlled tools.
The ability of CNC machining to produce more intricate shapes and features in a workpiece than a lathe is one of their primary distinctions. Multiple axes operations and a wide range of tasks, including milling, drilling, and engraving, are possible with CNC machines. A lathe, on the other hand, is primarily utilized for turning tasks, such producing cylindrical shapes.
Both CNC machining and turning are significant production processes with unique advantages and disadvantages.
